Big Warm Welcome!

Welcome to my blog - Keynote Presentation! It is with great excitement I take my first step in the world of blogging. I will be writing primarily about all things relevant to presentations designs, Keynote for MAC, a wonderful presentation tool on Apple and other free resources related to presentations.

The 10 most serious errors in designing Keynote presentations

Is not worth to get ready to give an excellent presentation, class or conference, if you make any of these 10 very serious but very common mistakes in design presentations.

No matter if you have weapons like PowerPoint presentations, Keynote, Google Slides (or other like Prezi which I personally do not like), take the opportunity to design them intelligently, so you and your audience enjoy more of the moment that last your talk.

Taking a premade template may drastically help you to cut the time spent in designing the layout yourself, so you can always find professional Keynote themes online and use them instead.

Poorly designed presentation subtracts professionalism to people who value things well done. Unless you enjoy mediocrity, they are the type of individuals you should look to impress with your presentations, because they will be those who will bring greater benefits to your life (sales, connections, feedback, etc.).

Before removing the USB from your computer, check that your Keynote presentation has no trace of the following errors:

1. Forgetting who is going to observe your performance.

Normally you do your presentations in front of human beings, and no matter whether they are accountants or artists, most often you will need to present in a chaotic and confusing environment. It's natural! But no matter what situation you are in, always attempt to connect to the audience.

Think that you're someone in the audience while you design your presentation.

- What colors would you feel identified more with?

- Is it better a photograph or illustration?

If you close more the focus on your slides designs and know your audience well, then you've already won.

For example, if you are aware that all your audience are older adults, you should use larger font sizes and leave plenty of white space between the elements of each slide.

2. Using images with watermark or pixilated.

There are free and excellent quality images on many websites. There is no excuse for poor quality. Here I leave top 3 websites where you can download free high quality images.

3. Text, text, text

If you take into the account on the first point, you should no longer have this problem. Make sure your presentation does not contain large blocks of text unless it is a performance whose purpose is only to be read without someone expose aloud (eg online classes).

If a presentation has a lot of text per slide, public attention is divided between the text and what the speaker says. You do not want that to happen.

Flat, if you know someone who puts a lot of text on their slides and also exposing their presentation just to read aloud ... I don't know what tell you, it may be too late to save that person.

4. Using elements that do not contrast with background.

Powerpoint Slides are usually shown by projectors, which in itself change the colors as you saw on your screen last night.

By not strongly marking the contrast between text and background, you run the risk that your audience ignores valuable information.

5. Animations and / or sounds out of place

You properly divided your information by bullets, but this does not mean that it is better if you add sounds of gunshots in Old West style.

It is better to use sounds with common sense!

6. Very sophisticated typography

If you use Powerpoint or Keynote, remember that if someone else reviews your presentation on a different computer than the one you used to design it, unless you want them to see your distorted presentation, she / he will need to have installed all the fonts you used.

You do not like the Arial and need to use more "chic" fonts that not everybody will have?

It is better that you add as images and not as text (you can do it by cutting a screenshot within your own presentation), or flat you export the entire presentation as PDF (if you are not interested in animation).

The most important thing is that your texts are 100% readable.

7. Images whose background does not go well with the background of your slide.

It is worth investing some time to remove a disturbing background from the pictures that do not need them. It is possible to do this in the last versions of Powerpoint and Keynote, without leaving the program.

If you have a very complex (and important) assembly, do not risk it and better hire someone with more experience than you with Photoshop.

8. Not using your brand in the design.

If the content of the presentation you are about to expose is related to the services or products you offer, it is an excellent booster brand to include your logo and branding on it, as long as your picture does not interfere with the purposes of your conference.

A slide at the end with your contact information is also a good idea.

9. Crushing / lengthening images disproportionately.

Whenever you need to enlarge or reduce the size of a picture, do it evenly dragging from a corner and with the SHIFT key pressed.

If you know someone who does not hold the temptation to crush their images in all its forms, remind that for every crushed Keynote or PowerPoint image, a designer in the world dies of starvation.

10. Shameful Typos

People in a hurry make the presentations with a pair of typing errors. Presentations with more than three spelling errors are made by lazy people.

Your audience knows that Google, the self-correcting from any computer, or a paper dictionary are very easy to consult.

In reviewing deeply, correct the spelling of your presentation. It will not only give greater professionalism to your figure but send the message to your audience:

"Your attention is important enough to take the trouble to check my work before introducing you".
